Splits Studio is built and maintained by one person. Every email goes straight to me — no support queue, no ticketing system. I usually reply within one business day.

Before you write

If you're hitting an issue, sending these along makes it much faster to fix:

• A short description of what you tried and what went wrong.
• Your macOS version (Apple menu → About This Mac).
• Your Splits Studio version (Splits Studio → About Splits Studio).
• If a detection or export failed: the source file's resolution, codec, length, and roughly how many scenes you expected.
• Optionally a screenshot of the error or the panel that misbehaved.

Which Macs are supported?

Splits Studio runs on Apple Silicon Macs (M1 or newer) running macOS 14 Sonoma or later. Scene detection and frame extraction are accelerated by the GPU and Neural Engine on M-series chips.

What input formats are supported?

Anything AVFoundation can decode — MP4, MOV, M4V, and most common H.264 / H.265 / ProRes / HEVC variants. If a file opens in QuickTime Player on your Mac, Splits Studio can almost certainly process it.

Where do my outputs save?

Into the folder you choose in the Export panel. Splits Studio creates a sub-folder per source file with the frames, MP4 segments, and GIFs you toggled on, named in scene order so they sort correctly in Finder.

How do I tune scene detection?

Three sliders: Scene sensitivity (lower = fewer, longer scenes), Minimum scene length (drops sub-second flickers), and Group duration (merges similar scenes back together — useful for talking-head footage with subtle reframes). The diagnostic color bar redraws live as you tune.

Can I batch-process a stack of files?

Yes — drag a folder or multiple files into the queue. Splits Studio processes them sequentially and shows progress per file at the bottom of the window. You can keep adding while it works.

Can I import the output into Final Cut, Resolve, or Premiere?

Yes. Drop the per-scene MP4 segments straight onto your timeline, or use the JPEG frames as a contact sheet for shot-listing. There's no XML/AAF interchange yet — the roundtrip happens at the file level.

How do I reset Splits Studio?

Quit the app, then delete ~/Library/Application Support/Splits/ and (if you installed from the App Store) the sandbox container at ~/Library/Containers/com.brenno.splitsstudio/. Re-launch and you're starting fresh.
